The KOSPI closed lower as concerns over the US artificial intelligence market weighed on investor sentiment, with selling pressure centered on semiconductor stocks spreading across the broader market.
Chipmakers came under concentrated selling as worries about the sustainability of the AI rally in the United States spilled over into the Korean market. The decline in semiconductor issues extended to other sectors, widening the session's losses, according to market summaries.
The weakness reflects the sensitivity of Korean large caps — including Samsung Electronics and SK hynix — to shifts in global AI sentiment, given their exposure to the memory and chip supply chain.
With the initial selling in chips broadening into a wider pullback, the KOSPI's decline was not confined to a single sector. Market participants remained focused on developments in the US AI space as the key driver of near-term direction.
The claim that the KOSPI traded weak on US AI concerns amid spreading semiconductor-centered selling is True.
