Fake drives threaten disc-based emulation

The developers' warning centers on the emulator's reliance on original PS3 game discs. The console's emulation workflow depends on reading data from genuine Blu-ray drives, and counterfeit units can produce inaccurate reads that break disc verification. According to the developers, counterfeit drives have surfaced on both Newegg and AliExpress, meaning buyers cannot assume drives listed on major marketplaces are authentic.

Users advised to check before buying

The developers did not provide a comprehensive list of affected drive models, and the full extent of counterfeit listings remains unconfirmed. Users looking to dump their own game discs for use with the emulator are advised to exercise caution when purchasing drives from these platforms and to verify drive authenticity before relying on them.

The claim that PS3 emulator developers warned of fake Blu-ray drives on Newegg and AliExpress is True.
